The thrust of the Institute’s work in this area has been the exploration of the incorporation within psychotherapy of a concept of the human soul. This means understanding how empirical psychology can incorporate this concept.

The matter has been approached both within theological and psychological frameworks in forums and publications of the Institute. A very substantial focus of the Institute’s work here has been upon the “Logotherapy” of Viktor Frankl, with a number of first published translations of seminal essays as well as forums on his thought.

In the theological domain it has looked also at the relationship of Chassidic thought to the writings of both Frankl and Freud. Many forums of the Institute have also applied this general enquiry to specific issues and topics within psychotherapy.
